This is our version of a Geoboard made with a real tree cookie! The screws are on a 1” grid so the kids can learn about trees, math, and geometry all at the same time!

A Geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry such as perimeter, area and the characteristics of triangles and other polygons. They were invented and popularized in the 1950s by Egyptian mathematician Caleb Gattegno (1911-1988).

Geoboards may have an upright square lattice (like ours) of 9, 16 or 25 nails or more, or a circle of nails around a central nail.

Children are asked to place rubber bands around the nails to explore geometric concepts or to solve mathematical puzzles.

Geoboards may be used to learn about:
• plane shapes
• translation
• rotation
• reflection
• similarity
• co-ordination
• counting
• right angles
• pattern
• classification
• scaling
• position
• congruence
• area
• perimeter

Kids can also use the rubber bands to spell out their names!

The tree cookie is 2”- 3” thick, treated with kid safe preservative, and the screws on a one inch grid are ceramic coated to prevent rust.

Rubber bands are not supplied (and the quarter doesn’t come with it either :)). You can use whatever bands you have on hand, but different colors are certainly more attractive!
